WEEK 97
God, how might I grow deeper in your spirit today?
See me…
I created form and am in all forms.
Hear me…
in the wind… in all sound;
in voices and music and stomping feet.
Smell me…
in fresh air, baking bread;
in the sweetness of blossoms.
I am present in all aromas…
even those that repel.
Taste me…
I am the flavor in all things
and the reason your taste buds taste.
Touch me…
Feel me…
I am the reality of existence,
the Creator of being,
the living in life.
Love is my body.
All that is –
is my proof…
my eternal kiss.
What to do when you see, hear, smell,
taste and touch me?
You’ll know. You’ll know what to do.
The sun shines in response to me.
The moon glows. Rain splashes. Snowflakes
float… Oceans wave… Earth turns. Roses
offer their sweetest. And silence… remains silent.
You will know what to do…
today.
Evening Reflection
The question of where to find God is not the question. The question is where isn’t God? And the answer is nowhere. Yes, God isn’t nowhere! The simpler language is, God is everywhere. It is us human beings that are challenged to experience this truth.
Today, I admit, was an easier day to experience God. First of all the weather was amazing. When my wife and I went grocery shopping the vegetable and fruit sections were especially joyous to be in. God was on display in the colors and smells!
But as my wife Jeannine and I prepared for a monthly event we host, we hovered in that doubtful place of not knowing who, if anyone, would come… and buying enough food in hopes we needed it all. As the event unfolded that evening, it was as if the Creator said, “Can you see me now?” It turned out we had a crowd come through our studio like never before! Toward the latter part of this 3-hour event a local non-profit organization stopped in with a group of developmentally challenged people. We put them in tap shoes and we all had a fabulous time. God was present in the joy that showed up – in the laughter, the willingness to move and dance, even those in wheel chairs. In all of our participants God was pouring through in the unifying feeling of community… in the exclamations of, “This is fun!”
After all our guests had left and we began preparing to leave, Jeannine and I turned to each other and simply smiled a knowing smile. God had shown up in the form of all who came, in the sounds of all our tapping feet… the tastes of food, the sounds of the music and rhythms… and the touch of all the loving hearts being… together.
I know God is always everywhere, but because we take in the world through our senses, it is amazing when the Divine shows up to be human with us in a grand way… (like Jesus did back in the day!)
