WEEK 199
God, what is your guidance for me today?
Spend this day reverencing.
Reverence all creation…
all life…
all people.
Every created person and thing exist by God’s ‘Yes’.
To reverence is to show deep respect.
This comes with acknowledging the
equality of is-ness.
We all have creation in common.
Live this day having deep respect for
all life, all creation… all
created beings,
and see what happens.
Are you willing to do this, today?
.
Evening Reflection
Allowing the quality of reverencing to be a focal point today allowed a beautiful experience to unfold. It was as if I could cover everything with a deep respect. Regardless of whether I knew a person or not, I could cover them with a deep respect simply because God has said yes to their life as God has said yes to mine. This, in turn, fostered a felt difference in my attitudes, presuppositions, opinions and first impressions.
To reverence does not mean you have to like everyone. And it certainly does not mean you have to agree with what they say or do.
It does mean that you decide to see them filtered through a different life lens. It means an expansion of our ability to see people as God would. That is, created beings made in the image and likeness of the Divine, even if we think they are not behaving so divinely.
Judgment is reserved for God, even as we see the terrible things humans do and have done to each other. Reverence is the hard work of knowing that even though we are violent creatures who create wars, atrocities and a seeming unlimited array of crimes and affronts… STILL… all are divinely created by the same Divinity that created us.
To reverence is to hold all creation, people included, in the light of God’s love for all.
So, how did you do with this today?
