WEEK 206
God, what is your guidance for me today?
Today,
think of your life as being in service
of others.
1. Make someone’s load a little lighter.
2. Be the friend or companion someone needs.
3. Lend a listening ear to one who
desires to be heard.
4. Comfort a soul who is in pain.
5. Make a person laugh who could use a lift.
6. Sit with someone who may be lonely.
7. Show love to one who needs to
feel its healing power.
8. Share your peace with somebody who is in turmoil.
Doing even one of these things today
will be a wonderful blessing for someone…
and for you.
Evening Reflection
I was with my mother most of the day. Just me and mom. We ran a bunch of errands that she needed to do.
And yet, I was able to do several things on the guidance’s list.
I drove her to her medical appointment. I helped her up and down stairs, holding on to her upper arm so she could feel more secure. Those are numbers 1 and 2 on the list.
I listened to her complaints about this and that. My mother is not a complainer. She just sees what’s going on and wants me to know she sees what’s going on. That is number 3 on the list.
She has been having hand pain. The doctors said they couldn’t see anything. I helped ease her pain by massaging her hand. I also told her she was smarter than the doctors and to trust her gut and get a second opinion, like she already knows she should. There is number 4.
Number 5 was easy. We both love to laugh. She made me laugh more than I made her laugh!
In our conversing, I asked my mother how it feels to be the last living member of her immediate family. She said, “Lonely.” We both sat with that one for a while. That fulfills number 6.
My mother lives alone, by choice. She is the last in her immediate family. She’s got a bum knee and she’s 82. I loved on her all day. When she got back to the house, she thanked me for being with her and said she feels better, though she didn’t know why.
I do.
Isn’t it interesting? Seven of the eight items were fulfilled on one person. She’s not in turmoil… That one, as far as I know, didn’t get fulfilled, unless you consider her indecision of whether to stop at Wendy’s, Captain D’s, Dunkin’ Donuts, or Krispy Kreme Donuts. I simply said, “Whatever you want mom. We can do them all.”
