Sharp Guidance

Be a Surprise

It was brutally cold for a few days here in Colorado where I live. The kind of cold where you stay inside near the warmth of a fireplace with a cup of steaming tea or a bowl of soup. If you dare to venture outside, the snow squeaks under the weight of your heavy boots and you cover your mouth and nose with a warm scarf so you can breathe without a shock from the frigid air to your throat and lungs.

Then, in the middle of the bitter cold, a moment arrived when the sun came out and was shining its warm radiance upon the earth, surprising all of us. People ventured outside into the sunshine with smiles on their faces, welcoming the light and warmth with gratitude. They inhaled deeply, breathing in the fresh air warmed by sunlight. It was as if they realized that there was hope once again that spring was on the horizon.

What if you could be the surprise of a warm day like that, in the midst of the cold winter, for someone today? Wherever you may be and whatever the temperatures may be there, I invite you to join me. Let’s give it a try today!

Bring warmth and joy from your heart like sunshine. Let it radiate to those you encounter today who may be feeling the cold and darkness of suffering in their lives. Embrace their pain with your loving thoughts and gestures. Shine your compassion and care upon them.

Be the surprise of a warm day in winter for them!
